My AP Preseason Top 25 is now 95.3% – Six Months in Advance

Every February I put up my projected Preseason AP Top 10 SIX MONTHS in advance of the actual release of the AP Preseason Poll.

Here is a link to that February blog Click Here

Here is what I projected in February this year

My 2023 Projected AP Preseason Top 10.

1. Georgia
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. Michigan
5. Penn State
6. LSU
7. Florida State
8. Clemson
9. USC
10. Notre Dame

The AP poll is out and this year for the second straight year, I “only” hit 9 of the 10 teams with my #10 team Notre Dame coming in at #11 and Washington sneaking into the top 10. Interestingly last year I had Oregon at #10 and the AP voters put Baylor in at #10. Oregon was #6 in the AP poll with three weeks to go and #10 the final week of the regular season and led Oregon St 31-10 late 3Q but lost. They finished #15. Baylor suffered through a 6-7 season. Oregon would have been the better choice. Don’t be surprised if Notre Dame finishes better than Washington this year. Tennessee was #10 in the preseason Coaches poll.

Prior to 2021 my predicted AP Top 10 had been a PERFECT 10 for 10 each of the previous FOUR years! When I predict the AP Top 10 in February (about a HALF YEAR ahead of the actual AP poll), I have now hit on 143 out of 150 over the last 15 years! That means hitting all 10 teams in eight of the thirteen years and missing by just one team in the other seven years. Once again, predicting the top ten teams in the AP poll SIX MONTHS in advance, the record is now 143 out of 150 or 95.3%!

For the record here is the complete AP Top 25 including the Others receiving votes.

Others receiving votes: Texas Tech 101, South Carolina 73, UCLA 66, UTSA 64, Arkansas 22, Boise State 17, Pittsburgh 16, Kentucky 14, Troy 10, Kansas 10, Louisville 10, Auburn 7, Minnesota 6, Toledo 4, Mississippi State 4, Duke 4, Florida 4, Illinois 3, Coastal Carolina 3, Baylor 3, Liberty 1, James Madison 1, NC State 1, South Alabama 1

Football season is almost here and remember my digital magazine is updated DAILY all the way thru the start of the season. We circle injured players that are out for the year and update the writeups for each team. As an example for Northwestern Head Coach, it lists David Braun and not Pat Fitzgerald who was let go after the magazine went to the press. You can get my digital magazine click Here.
