2018 Top 50 True Freshman RB’s and their Impact on the season.
It has been said that the running back position is one of easier positions for a true frosh to be able to play right away. When we did the quarterback position Thursday, only 27 of the Top 50 quarterbacks from the 2018 class earned passing stats or 54% of the players. I expected a higher percentage for the running backs.
As expected the numbers were higher. Of the Top 50 true frosh from the 2018 signing class, 34 earned rushing stats or 68% of them. Some running backs were moved to different positions and played as true freshman.
Of the 34 freshman with stats only 4 had 500 or more yards. PS#33 Pooka Williams of Kansas had 1,125 yards 7.0 ypc with 7 TD’s. PS#50 Toa Taua of Nevada was 2nd with 872 4.9 ypc and 6 TD’s. Texas RB Keaontay Ingram (PS#10) with 708 yards 5.0 ypc took 3rd and Lyn-J Dixon (PS#20) from Clemson 547 yards 8.8 ypc took 4th.
The top yards per carry (10 or more att) on this list went to PS #17 Rondale Moore of Purdue who averaged 10.1 ypc on 21 attempts. Rondale moved to WR and had an explosive season with 114 rec 1,258 yards with 12 TD’s, also earning him All Conf awards. Kelan Walker (PS#30) came in 2nd with 9.3 ypc, then PS#20 Lyn-J Dixon with 8.8 ypc.
Two players moved to other positions on the list. Mentioned above Rondale Moore from Purdue and PS#39 Slade Bolden from Alabama moved to WR red shirted.
The Top 50 running backs from the 2018 class combined for a total of 8,696 yards with 71 touchdowns and 5.8 yards per carry.
