My Inside the Pressbox newsletter has been around since 2013. Each week I forecast EVERY FBS game including FBS vs FCS. You not only get my forecast on every game but also my computers projected score, yards rushing and yards passing. Now if you read my Offense and Defense writeups you will notice that quite often I say last year my computer forecast XX.X ppg or XXX ypg for this team and they hit those numbers on the head, team after team, time after time. I take my computers Rush, Pass and Points power rating for both offense and defense and play it into their schedule for the upcoming year to come upon these forecasts. I am happy every time I am typing those sections as I look at what the team did and then look back at the page and I am amazed how many times the computer hit it on the head!
If you take your weekly Inside the Pressbox compute forecast for each game and circle when the score projection is within 3 points of a teams actual score or within 25 yards of their actual rush or pass total you will have circles all throughout your newsletter! It is like getting the box score in advance!
In the Inside the Pressbox newsletter I have always forecast all of the games but then honed in my Best Bets for the week or the games that had the best line value. These plays have done extremely thru the years. In 2023 I decided to add another category which was my Computer Best Bets. These were the games where my computers forecast differed from the Vegas line the most. I do eliminate any games in which I like the other side so my computer and I have to agree on the games. Sometimes when I designate a computer best bet, this take one of my top plays off my Best Bet list because I do not want to duplicate plays. I still figured that I would be able to win the overall title despite that handicap which gives the computer an edge by giving my computer a good portion of my top plays.

In all 3 years of the “Phil vs my Computer” contest I have started out strong and taken the lead after one month. In all 3 years my computer gets recalibrated to the overall strength of this years teams and heated up down the stretch and overtook me with finishes of 17-7 and 19-11 and is 55-34 overall on Best Bets down the stretch. The postseason is tricky for a computer, so I won the first two postseasons as I was more able to factor in the large amount of opt outs in the bowl season. This past season I fine-tuned a few things for the computer forecast and my computer went 11-4 73% in the postseason and won that title as well!
