2020 Top 50 True Freshman RB’s and their Impact on the Season.

2020 Top 50 True Freshman RB’s and their Impact on the season.

It has been said that the running back position is one of easier positions for a true frosh to be able to play right away. When we did the quarterback position Thursday, only 23 of the Top 50 quarterbacks from the 2020 class earned passing stats or 46% of the players. I expected a higher percentage for the running backs.

As expected the numbers were higher. Of the Top 50 true frosh from the 2020 signing class, 37  earned rushing stats or 74% of them. Some running backs were moved to different positions and played as true freshman.

Of the 37 freshman with stats only 3 had 500 or more yards. PS#7 Tank Bigsby of Auburn had 834 yards 6.0 ypc with 5 TD’s and earned SEC All-Frosh Team. PS#4 Bijan Robinson of Texas was 2nd with 703 yards 8.2 ypc and 4 TD’s. Utah RB Ty Jordan (PS#41) with 597 yards 7.2 ypc took 3rd.

The top yards per carry (10 or more att) on this list went to PS #5 Jase McClellan of Alabama who averaged 10.7 ypc on 23 attempts. Lawrence Toafili (PS#19) came in 2nd with 9.6 ypc, then PS#25 Devon Achane with 8.5 ypc.

The Top 50 running backs from the 2020 class combined for a total of 9,079 yards with 80 touchdowns and 5.9 yards per carry.
