2018 Top 50 True Freshman DB’s and their Impact on the Season.

 

Today is the final list talking about the Top 50 true freshman defensive backs and their impact on the season. One team stood out on this list being Texas. The Longhorns have 6 players (3 Top 10) listed and all 6 of them had significant playing time.

Out of the Top 50 True Freshman on this list, 36 (72%) contributed with stats in some way this past season. Of the 36 players with stats, 8 were from my Top 10. 1 player PS#35 D’Shawn Jamison of Texas saw action on both sides of the ball. He did not have any defensive stats but, had 9 PR for 118 yards and 1 TD, 10 KR for 202 yards in 13 games and was named 2nd team B12 punt returner by Phil Steele Publications.

Three players on this list had over 55 tackles. PS#9 Caden Sterns of Texas led the group with 62 tackles and was named 1st TM B12, B12 Frosh DPOY and 2nd TM B12 (PS). In 2nd was PS#6 Jaiden Woodley from Florida St with 58 tackles. 3rd came PS#17 Talanoa Hufanga of USC with 51. PS#5 BJ Foster of Texas was your sack leader at 2.5 as well as your tackle for loss leader with 6.5.

Three true freshman had 4 or more interceptions. PS#41 Jevon Holland led the group with 5 followed by PS#9 Caden Sterns & PS#26 Aashari Crosswell each with 4.

Overall the Top 50 true freshman DB’s contributed 746 tackles, 90 PBU’s and 21 interceptions this past season.
