2017 Top 50 True Freshman DL’s and their Impact on the season.

Today we will move on to my 2017 Top 50 true freshman defensive linemen and their impact on the season. This past year only 18 (36%) contributed in some way this past year. Of the 18 only 7 players had over 15 tackles, and 4 of them were in my Top 10.

Only two players on list had more than 20 tackles. PS#18 K’Lavon Chaisson of LSU had 27 tackles and 2 sacks. While UCLA’s Jaelan Phillips (PS#2) with 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Nine players recorded at least 1 sack. PS#3 AJ Epenesa led the bunch with 4.5 sacks. PS#5 Joshua Kaindoh of Florida St a close 2nd with 4 sacks. Tackles for loss on this list were scarce as a total of 20.5 tfl from all 18 players. This year’s class under performed compared to the previous year’s class. In 2016 the true freshman defensive lineman had 29 players contribute for a total 534 tackles, 47.5 sacks and 51 tackles for loss.

The 2017 Top 50 true freshman defensive linemen contributed 194 tackles, 23 sacks, and 20.5 tackles for loss.
