The 2025 magazine will hit the bookstores by July 4, 2025. We send the last page to the press the first full week of June. This is the section we invested the Most words into because it covers the star of the VIP package and that is the magazine itself. As you know the Phil Steele College Football Preview magazine is quite often described as the “Bible of College Football”. There are numerous reasons for that. First it seems like the magazine has been around about as long as the Bible but in truth this is only the 31st year. My magazine gained its reputation on two key points. The first is the amount of information. My magazine is like getting 136 Media Guides rolled into on and even better, unlike a media guide all the information is in the same spot for every team. If you want to know who the starting left tackle is for any of the 136 teams you could close your eyes and point to where the Left Tackle is located on the left page. How about his backup and how many games he has played? It’s right there. Last year’s top 3 receivers? You know where to look. How many of last year’s top 10 tacklers are back? You know where to look and the players in bold are the ones’ returning. Top 3 passers all time? Top of the right-hand page. Coaches record with team and overall. Look in the Coaches box. Last 10 years spread records in 9 different categories? All 136 teams have them. Game by game stats for last year? Last 6 bowl games? Top Freshmen listed by ranking? Last 5 years scores and spreads? They are all in the same spot on every page. We also give you a complete breakdown of each matchup for the upcoming season with tons of series notes both SU and ATS in each series. The left-hand pages give you a complete breakdown on each position. We tell you what kind of shape the unit was heading into last year, what happened last year and what my outlook is for this year for the position. There are 1224 such writeups in the magazine and each one gives you about the same number of words as the other magazines give you for the entire team. There is a three or four deep on each position. I could go on and on but you get the magazine and you know it has 3 to 4 times the amount of information as any other publication. The second reason is the accuracy. This year we were once again the Most accurate magazine in the country in 2024 and have been the most accurate over the last 30 years!
In the printing process we send the pages to the printer the first week of June. This way we can capture almost every single portal move that was made as the portal was closed for six weeks by the time we go to press, and most impact portal players sign early. Once the magazine gets to the printer it takes a little over a week for the finished copy to come rolling off the presses. At that time Kirk Phillips and his Learfield crew start stuffing them into envelopes and putting them into the mail and on the way to our VIP’s. It takes about 3-4 more days for all the magazines to be printed with all the different regional covers but the first ones are already in the mail for our VIP’s and they all have the National Cover. To get on the shelves at our Exclusive Book Stores of Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million it takes a while. They must be packaged on pallets with the proper number of regional copies to each store. They head on a truck to the distribution centers and from there they are sent out to the individual stores. They reach all the Barnes and Nobles by July 4th each year and by that time my VIP members have their magazines already dog eared marked up and highlighted.

We send the magazine to the printer usually the first Thursday in June and two days later it is up and loaded on our digital version. There is a debate among my readers much like the Miller Lite commercials of the past which had “Taste Great” vs “Less Filling”. Two positives that the sides argued which was better. There are a ton of my readers that prefer the printed version. There is also a growing number of readers that prefer the digital version. It is an ongoing debate. The printed copy readers get to mark their magazines up and make it their own with all the notes on the pages. The digital version does have some advantages. Like the printed copy it is $19.95 but unlike the printed copy it does not get all dog eared and worn as the season goes on. The digital version does get updated all the way thru September. In August if a player tears his ACL and is out for the year, we circle him in the projected starting lineup and change the text above to reflect his loss. If a coach gets fired (Utah St this past summer) we change the coach and give you the updated records. Both versions are well worth the $19.95 and each have their advantages.
VIP members do not have to choose, you get both! That’s right VIP members automatically get the digital version for FREE with their purchase of the VIP package. As mentioned above once we send the boards to the press the digital version becomes available two days later and VIP members have access almost a full week before the magazine is even printed!
