In the inaugural Phil Steele’s Pro Football Preview, I made a forecast for each division and I am very pleased
to announce that I correctly forecasted 7 of the 8! Mine was also the ONLY major magazine to pick the eventual
Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South. We followed that performance up 8 of the last 9
years (no projections made in ’17) by picking 37 of 72 division winners (51%).
The NFL is certainly a league of parity. In fact, going back to 1998, only 31% of the time had a team repeated as a division winner through 2013.
