Today we will move on to the next position in my 2020 Top 50 True Freshman list and talk about tight ends. There was a lot less production on this list as out of the Top 50, 14 (28%) of the players contributed stats for their team.
Four players broke the 100 yard mark this past year. PS#3 Michael Mayer of Notre Dame came in at #1 with 450 yards, 10.7 ypc and 2 touchdowns. 2nd was LSU’s Arik Gilbert (PS#1) 368 yards, 10.5 ypc and 2 touchdowns, also receiving SEC All-Frosh honors (transferred to Georgia ’21). In at #3 was PS#9 Mikey Henderson of Oklahoma with 168 yards, 14.0 ypc and 1 touchdown. Coming in at #4 PS#2 Darnell Washington of Georgia with 166 yards, 23.7 ypc.
The top yards per catch in this group with at least 10 or more receptions goes to Mikey Henderson with 14.0 yards per catch on 12 receptions. Michael Mayer was 2nd with 10.7 ypc on 42 receptions. 3rd was Arik Gilbert with 10.5 on 35 receptions.
The Top 50 tight ends from last year combined for 1,460 yards, 11.4 ypc and 7 touchdowns. You should see a lot more productions from these players in 2021.
